This topic introduces the basic principles of how infectious (communicable) diseases arise and spread. It explains the epidemiological triad—the interaction between the agent (microorganism or causative factor), the host (human or animal), and the environment—as the foundation of disease occurrence. Key concepts such as infectivity, pathogenicity, virulence, susceptibility, and immunogenicity are defined to understand the behavior of infectious agents.

Topic 4: Environmental Hygiene and Sanitation
The health of individuals and communities is closely linked to the quality of their environment. Clean air, safe water, proper waste disposal, and controlled living conditions are essential for preventing disease and promoting well-being. Environmental hygiene and sanitation focus on creating and maintaining surroundings that are free from conditions that can cause illness.
