Learning Objectives:
By the end of the course, students should be able to:

Explain key concepts and principles of PHC, including equity, participation and appropriate technology.

Outline the history of PHC, from Alma-Ata to the current Universal Health Coverage agenda.

Identify major determinants of health and their impact on community well-being.

Apply basic epidemiology to disease prevention and control in the community.

Carry out community health assessments and situation analysis using participatory methods.

Plan and implement community-based interventions through organization, mobilization and empowerment.

Demonstrate skills in home visiting, school health programs and other CBHC services.

Work with other sectors to promote population health and sustainable development.

Evaluate community health programs using key indicators of participation and effectiveness.

Show professional attitudes and ethics such as teamwork, responsibility and respect for community values.
Expected Competencies
On completion, graduates will be able to design, deliver and evaluate PHC and CBHC programs, promote health at individual and community levels, and contribute to the achievement of Universal Health Coverage and the SDGs in Uganda and beyond.
